Pre-Net Assessment

  • What’s the best way to handle the transition to Voice over IP (VoIP) to begin with?
  • What will VoIP do to my existing network and application performance?
  • Can I possibly know for sure that I’ll get the dial-tone-level availability I need if I buy VoIP equipment?
  • Would the savings promised for VoIP really pay for the expensive tools and tech staff required to manage it?

Network Assessment – Ready or not…..

Am I ready?

The Streamline application will generate simulated call traffic based on the parameters of the Pre-Net Assessment completed earlier. These metrics are reviewed upon requesting a report to determine if a network will support VoIP traffic. To make a determination of support, for the range of days the report was requested, the average of all data collected is calculated for delay, jitter and loss. Those averaged values are what appear in the thermometer values. The values calculated are compared against the default values, or an overriding set for this specific study.

The default values are:

Warning
  • Delay >275ms
  • Jitter > 45ms
  • Loss > 1.5%

Error
  • Delay >275ms
  • Jitter > 45ms
  • Loss > 2%

If any of the 3 metrics surpass the Error threshold, the report will show a RED Warning indicating the network will not support the VoIP Calls.

If any of the 3 metrics surpass the Warning threshold, the report will show a YELLOW Warning indicating the network MAY support the VoIP Calls.

If none of the metrics surpass, the report will show a GREEN Circle indicating the network will support the VoIP Calls.

Be advised, there may be Poor Quality Calls indicated in the graphics, as at some point, the metrics were above error thresholds. This percentage of Poor Quality Calls should be considered in addition to the general performance of the network.
